I ordered this fan about a week ago and I have been using it since! I use it mostly while working on the desk and also I put it besides my bed when I sleep.
I like the fan. It does cool you off. This (Handy Cooler Portable Air Conditioner) is like my new holy grail. It works so wonderfully and people keep asking me what it is and where I got it. I was unsure of how it worked before I bought this, until I played around with it, I realize it's basically a turbine fan that filters air through a wet filter and for some reason the air comes out is cold. It doesn't cool more than 30 degrees but that is enough for me. Once they stopped working, I took the batteries out and used them elsewhere -- they had lots of juice left in them. The only thing I can conclude is that the motor in this thing is very poorly engineered. If you set it down it vibrates and moves around. The cooling ability is 30 degrees maybe in a room that is 40 degrees. It worked great with my son; it kept him cool the entire time. We live in Corpus Christi which can also get really hot and humid and it worked great when we would go for a walk at the park or around the neighborhood.
If I were you, try it first before forking out your hard-earned dollars. I would have returned this product had I bought it in a local store. I ran into several people throughout the day who looked and looked and finally said "what IS that?" And I explained and let them try it. This is a special one that is nice and small and runs off the USB, more like a computer fan rather than those conventional household fans. It's made for outdoor use as you can see it has a handle but I have yet to try it on batteries. If you are used to living in hot environments, this is just a good-to-have. We share this amongst the family and my mom who is going through menopause loves it. We changed batteries in the unit again and it still would not work. I am very unhappy, I had high hopes this would help her tolerate the heat better. Otherwise, I would have given the fan 5 stars instead of 4 stars. I wash the sponge in peppermint soap to feel even cooler but it still has a stale sort of smell that I do not like.
If you get the product wet it stops working. One of them did not get wet and it stopped working for an hour just because.
It really COOLS! One suggestion I have for inserting the "filter" is, place it into the slatted cover first and then snap it closed.

Ultimately I simply settled for medium. The look is smooth. Mini Split AC. Although this helped to create the temperature down, it had been no more than ten degrees cooler than outside. Fantastic to have a remote to use it from the bed. AIR CONDITIONER SIZING.
