* First you must select Start, then All Programs, then System Tools, and then select System Restore. Doing so will bring you to the System Restore Wizard and from here you can back up your registry by selecting Create a restore point. If at any time in the future you have to restore your original registry, following the steps above and then simply selecting Restore my computer to an earlier time will do the trick.

The steps above will back up your Windows XP registry and keep you safe form the perils associated with computer emergencies and allow you to recover safe versions of your registry on your computer. Backing up your registry is not a fool proof methodif your PC suffers from a complete meltdown or implosion, then it is likely beyond the help of a registry back up and you will need to evaluate whether or not you need a new computer. Still, it is good to know how to manually back up your registry because it gives you more control over your PC through protective measures.
