Blake Griffin A No Show In The Dunk Contest?

Last year Lob City star Blake Griffin set a new precedent in winning the Slam Dunk Contest, by dunking over a car. Watching with a friend the other night, he mentioned how Blake should slow it down and not dunk so much. "Not dunk so much? Are you kidding me?" I said. Blake is one of the most dynamic players we've ever seen.

There seems to be a new Dunk of the Century every couple of games, which are some of the biggest reasons more people than ever are even watching the Clippers this season, right? Some players are doing whatever they can just to get out of his way when they see him sizing one up.

Yet at the same time, the players that aren't running from him are starting to hit -- hard. The last couple of games Griffin has been hit hard in the face, and has also taken multiple other body blows. We all saw how Shaquille O'Neal's physical play, and the defensive scheme created to combat it ("Hack-a-Shaq"), effected his body later on in his career.

But forget ten years from now. Blake has a chance to help his team win titles NOW. And with Chauncey Billups now done for the season with an Achilles injury, Lob City is going to need the rest of its guys, especially its key players, healthy down the stretch. Maybe resting during this year's Slam Dunk Contest, even if fans will have a fit, is the best thing to do for the team. Should Blake dunk this year?
