The origination of Aistear Iniscrealta can be discovered in a Rectory Field, saved by local inhabitants who did not want it to swallowed under bricks and mortar. This was the last green space in the area, and they wanted it to remain as an amenity for the community, visitors and their childrens children to come. This was achieved with the opening of Aistear Park on June twenty-one, 2000. An image of the Inis Cealtra ( Holy Island ) can be seen on the arch of the entrance gate, if you look closely. Inis Cealtra is classed as one of Ireland's premier monastic sites, and is located on Lough Derg, which is down the road from the town.

Before the Aillwee Caves may be accessed by the public, an attainment which was eventually made possible in 1976, the entrance, previously only an opening in the cliff face extending from the cavern as far as Bear Paradise needed to be blasted to allow for groups. Excavation works uncovered a crawl space at ground level ; a precursor for discovery of the St. Patrick's Series of passages. Excavation works continued for another month, to make an access way through the caves. This was eventually achieved on Midsummer Day, thus why the uncovered alcove was named the Midsummer Cavern.

Atlantic Air Venture Aviation Centre is a wonderful place for all of the family to study the history of Irish aviation and the contribution that Shannon Airport has made to aviation internationally. Film reels tell the unique stories of the key figures concerned in promoting and developing this engaging industry. The cockpit and fuselage of a BAC 1-11 that was decommissioned in two thousand, as well as the rudder of a Phantom F4, are just a couple of the many exhibits on show to bring the actions of airplanes to life. A variety of memorabilia and artefacts are on show, for example Celestial Navigation instruments dating back to the 1940s. The Flight Simulation Centre isn't to be missed - you can take a flying lesson, land a Boeing 737 or play a role in a race between JFK Airfield and the Statue of Liberty.

Just down the line from Ennis is Ballyalla Lake, a paradise for wildlife on the Stream Fergus. The park surrounding the lake has toilet facilities, auto parking, and other services for people that wish to take a picnic while enjoying the tranquil environment. Boats are also authorized on the lake. Nautical and wild plants grow in and around the lake, in turn supporting the bird life that lives on the lake itself and in the encompassing parkland. The ruins of Ballyalla Castle are also to be found near Ballyalla Lake. The siege of 1642 was played out here.

Everything made by Ballymorris Pottery is dishwasher and microwave safe. It's also lead free. The workshop in Cratloe, located in a 17th century farmhouse, produces phenomenal hand thrown pottery. They also teach beginners ' pottery classes in their friendly and welcoming workshop. Here, creativeness is inspired - do not be scared to keep trying! It's a good way to develop experience of building by hand, or throwing on the potters wheel. They also create children's hand prints, and hold children's classes. Pottery parties are always well-liked, and are a novel way to celebrate an occasion. Lots of their creations, such as their stoneware ceramic angel bell, have a meaning and symbolism. In ancient times, the Celts looked on angels as protectors, buddies and good talismans. These attractive hand made bells feature a porcelain clapper.
