The reason why so many homeowners are resorting to using techniques for killing moles in the yard is that some ? if not all ? of the humane methods that they are using do not deliver. Moles inflict considerable damage on lawns and plants that it has grown very frustrating for homeowners to control them. If you consider yourself one of the unfortunate people who have to deal with these creatures living in their lawns, then using the following tactics might finally rid you of them.
One method that has never seemed to falter in delivering the promise of the eradication of moles is with the use of killing traps. These mechanisms trap and choke their victims to render them lifeless. Mole traps can vary in their look, trapping mechanism, and size. Therefore, you have to make sure to use something that is apt for you. Position these traps in or near tunnels that are frequented by moles.
Poisons are just as effective as traps for killing moles in the yard. They, however, do end up in bloodbath. Mole poisons come in the form of pellets and capsules that are merely deposited in active tunnels. With an active ingredient of warfarin, an anticoagulant, the moles should be lifeless a short time after their ingestion of the poison. Ensure proper handling of the poisons as it could also be poisonous to children and pets.
You can also kill moles by drowning them. What you simply need to do is to fill up their burrows with water with the use of a garden hose. To make this method more effective, cover up all the other holes with thick and heavy plywood to ensure that the mole does not escape. This is a very simple and cheap way to get rid of moles so it would be worth trying out first before using any of the other costly methods for mole eradication.
Moles have very soft bodies that merely hitting them with something hard will cause their death. Look for any digging activity that is happening near the surface of your lawn and hit it as hard and as frequent as you can with a shovel or any hand tool. If you exert a good enough force, this method should be good enough in killing moles in the yard.
The use of gas bombs are not exactly a very humane way to get rid of moles but it is a very effective method. Containing the very toxic carbon monoxide gas, its fumes will travel and penetrate the entire network of tunnels underground once the bomb is deposited in the burrow. It will work by killing the mole through suffocation or gas poison.
All of these methods carry with them a certain amount of danger to both humans and to other animals so caution should always be a main factor in handling and installing them. Always follow the manufacturer?s instructions and keep small children and pets away from gaining access to them. Keep in mind that these tactics for killing moles in the yard could be damaging to other animals and even to humans.
