Saving Money Shopping

Clothing shopping is too fun and your wardrobe says a lot about your personality. When you're working with a budget though, your clothes can take up a lot of that hard earned money. Use my tips for clothes shopping to buy the clothes you want without spending extra money.

Buy discount gift cards. See what your credit card company has to offer or check out gift card sites. Plastic jungle for example can save you as much as fifty percent off of gift cards to help you buy the clothes you want for less.

Buy the trend in moderation. Going crazy on every new trend is expensive. The smartest way to buy the trend is to buy one or two of the trendiest piece and otherwise sticking with the classics. Also, when the trend allows, buying the hottest cut in a neutral color makes your trendy top a lot more versatile. You can also accessorize to make it look different every time you wear it.

Don't let a sale trick you. Sales are awesome but they are designed to make you spend money, even if it is less than you would if you had bought something full price. If you end up buying something you don't love, you are wasting money that could go toward a killer (though full priced) purse.

Organize your closet to save extra money on clothing. Know what you have in your closet for every occasion. Work clothes, casual clothes, and exercise gear are all necessities. Once you know what you have, you can figure out what you need...and what you tend to over-buy.

Retail therapy works without money. You don't have to spend money like crazy to make retail therapy work. Go shopping with your friends and try on everything but wait to make a purchase. Passing up a not so great retail therapy purchase means you will have the money later when you see something you can't live without.

Stock your closet with power pieces. Power pieces are the basics that you need as go-to clothing for just about any occasion. These should be the base of your wardrobe and will mean something different for everyone. A jacket, great jeans, a nice suit and a choice pair of shoes can be worn just about every day and just about anywhere. These power pieces should be durable and gorgeous. The key to these pieces are that they are basic but look awesome. They match everything and make you look great every day. Though they will be more expensive, their durability and versatility will save you money long term.

Make a list. You use a list at the grocery store; it works for clothes shopping too. Once you've looked through your closet, decide what you need and stick to it. Even if you love buying shoes, you will still feel like you need to shop if your jean selection is lacking.
